Five Years On from the 2020 Beirut Blast: A Nation’s Memory and Unfinished Justice

The soul of the Lebanese is carved from resilience and shaped by generations of trials. Wounded, yet never broken, we rise through every hardship, every storm, every injustice.

We keep going, yearning for peace of mind, choosing life over despair, and finding moments of joy even when they come wrapped in tears.

In the heart of Beirut’s port, The Gesture* stands tall, born from the debris of August 4, 2020. I chose to capture its hand holding the sun as a reminder that even in our darkest grief, we still dare to reach for hope.

But hope, on its own, is not enough!

Five years later from Beirut Blast, justice remains out of reach.

The wounds are still bleeding.

The truth is still silenced!

But our memory is unshakable, and our demand for justice will never fade.

These images are part of a larger collection captured in remembrance of the August 4, 2020 Beirut blast. Each frame is a testament to resilience and memory.
All photographs are available for licensing to honor, preserve, and share the tragic story.

* The Gesture, by Lebanese artist Nadim Karam, is a 25-meter memorial at Beirut’s port, created from steel salvaged after the August 4, 2020 explosion. It stands as a tribute to the victims and a lasting reminder of the city’s grief and resilience.
